Position Summary
The CNC Maintenance Technician will keep machining equipment and supporting shop systems safe, reliable, and ready for production. This hands-on role combines scheduled preventive maintenance with troubleshooting, equipment repairs, and general facility maintenance.
The ideal candidate brings strong industrial maintenance experience, a practical approach to diagnosing problems, and the ability to manage routine maintenance while responding to urgent equipment issues. Working closely with shop leadership and production personnel, this technician will help reduce downtime, identify developing problems, and maintain an organized, well-maintained manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on CNC machinery and related shop equipment according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
- Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, abnormal operation, and other conditions that may affect safety or production reliability.
- Check and replenish machine oils, lubricants, and other operating fluids; service filters and related components as needed.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, identify causes of equipment failures, and complete repairs within the scope of training and authorization.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns, communicate repair status, and restore equipment to safe operating condition.
- Perform general plumbing repairs and maintenance on shop fixtures and supporting systems.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production personnel to minimize disruption to shop operations.
- Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend corrective actions or improvements to preventive maintenance routines.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, parts used, and outstanding maintenance needs.
- Maintain organized tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies, and communicate replenishment needs.
- Support 5S practices by keeping maintenance areas and the shop floor clean, orderly, and free of hazards.
- Follow applicable Cal/OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, and established lockout/tagout practices during maintenance and repair work.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- Working knowledge of CNC machinery maintenance, including routine inspections, lubrication, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical issues and performing general electrical repairs within the scope of training and authorization.
- Ability to perform basic plumbing repairs and general facility maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and relevant mechanical or electrical diagrams.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment used in industrial maintenance.
- Familiarity with safe maintenance practices, equipment isolation, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage scheduled maintenance, and respond effectively to unexpected breakdowns.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear, accurate maintenance records.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaborate with production personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical training or coursework in industrial maintenance, electromechanical systems, or a related field.
- Direct maintenance experience with CNC machining centers, CNC turning equipment, or automated manufacturing systems.
- Experience using a computerized maintenance management system or other maintenance tracking tools.
