Job summary

Sulzer in Pasadena, TX is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Horizontal Boring Mill Operator to set up, program, and run CNC and manual machines for precision pump components, ensuring safety and quality. You will interpret blueprints, select tooling, maintain equipment, and perform inspections, repairing and refurbishing pump parts like casings, impellers, and shafts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience operating CNC machining equipment in a manufacturing or repair environment.
• Experience operating Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM).
• Experience machining and repairing industrial pump components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of CNC machine setup, tooling selection, offsets, and machining processes.
• Strong math, trigonometry, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, grinders, and shop equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment.
• Operate Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM) to machine large and complex components.
• Perform precision machining operations, including boring, drilling, milling, facing, threading, and complex angle cuts.
• Operate manual and automatic feeds to close tolerances as required.
• Complete assigned jobs from start to finish with minimal supervision.
• Determine the most effective machining methods and setups for each project.
• Perform quality inspections on manufactured and repaired parts prior to removal from the machine.
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to ensure product quality and equipment protection.
• Machine, repair, and refurbish pump components (casings, impellers, shafts, etc.).
• Interpret pump drawings, engineering specs, and repair procedures.
• Verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with customer requirements.
