Job summary

Accelera in Detroit, Michigan is seeking a senior CNC Machinist to lead the full production cycle for high-precision aerospace and industrial parts. You will set up multi-axis milling and turning centers, optimize tooling and speeds, and develop fixtures while ensuring GD&T compliance and First Article inspections.

The role also involves mentoring junior machinists, using CMMs for in-process checks, and driving continuous improvements in a low-to-medium volume shop.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a decade of CNC machining experience in a precision-focused facility.
• Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis CNC centres.
• Expertise in workholding for complex geometries.
• Proven First Article Inspections and reporting experience.
• Strong GD&T interpretation and application.
• Experience with CMMs and precision inspection tools.
• Knowledge of machining parameters and tooling for alloys (titanium/advanced materials a plus).
• Background with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.

Role Summary

Our team is currently looking for a skilled CNC Machinist to join a premier manufacturer specializing in high-performance parts for the aerospace and industrial sectors. You will be responsible for managing the full production cycle, including complex setups, fixture creation, and quality verification for high-precision components within a dynamic, low-to-medium volume setting. We need a senior-level professional who can oversee the manufacturing workflow from start to finish while acting as a key technical mentor to the rest of the shop team. The right candidate will demonstrate a blend of deep technical knowledge, proactive problem-solving, and a dedication to refining our production processes.

Core Duties

• Execute independent setups and operation of multi-axis CNC milling and turning machinery.
• Optimize tooling, offsets, and operational speeds to ensure production meets rigorous tolerance standards.
• Develop and validate custom workholding and fixture solutions to support the creation of intricate parts.
• Oversee First Article Inspections to ensure all components meet quality benchmarks and documentation requirements.
• Utilize precision measuring tools and CMM equipment to perform thorough in-process quality checks.
• Resolve technical issues related to tool wear, vibration, and process inconsistencies to keep production running smoothly.
• Analyze engineering blueprints and customer specifications to ensure full compliance with GD&T standards.
• Keep detailed production logs and setup documentation to ensure process transparency.
• Propose and execute process improvements to boost overall shop throughput and quality.
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert to help elevate the skills of junior machinists on the floor.

Required Skills and Experience

• A minimum of a decade of professional CNC machining experience within a precision-focused facility.
• Demonstrated proficiency in operating 4-axis or 5-axis CNC turning and milling centers.
• Deep expertise in designing and implementing workholding strategies for complex part geometries.
• Proven track record of successfully managing First Article Inspections and the necessary reporting.
• Advanced capability in interpreting and applying GD&T principles to manufacturing tasks.
• Skilled in using CMMs and various precision inspection tools to verify product integrity.
• Strong grasp of machining parameters and tooling for various alloys, with experience in titanium or advanced materials considered a plus.
• Background working within regulated quality systems such as AS9100 or ISO 9001.
• Self-motivated professional capable of making high-level machining decisions without constant oversight.
• Experience with CAM software like Mastercam or GibbsCAM is preferred but not mandatory.
