Summary of Position

The CNC Universal Grinder is responsible for setting up and operating universal CNC grinding machines to perform complex machining operations to meet customer specifications. Responsibilities include frequent changeovers for small custom orders and maximizing production efficiencies by operating multiple machines.

Principal Responsibilities

• Receive and review work assignments; verify work pieces and routing details.
• Follow procedures for machine setup, including selecting grind wheels, bushings, collets, and programs.
• Input tool and setup values, grind first piece, inspect, and adjust as needed.
• Dress and form abrasive wheels, mount and secure tools, and set machine parameters.
• Operate equipment in auto-cycle mode when possible, inspecting finished tools for accuracy.
• Set up and operate multiple machines when appropriate.
• Enter production data into the system, monitor equipment, and report issues.
• Perform SPC procedures on all jobs.
• Maintain a clean work area and perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Associates degree in machine tool operation or related field, or 3-5 years of relevant experience. A combination of education and experience is preferred.

Skills & Requirements

• Previous experience with machine operation and technical training.
• At least one year of machine setup and operation experience.
• Experience with grinding principles.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and shop drawings.
• Strong math skills, including calculations for machine settings.
