JOB REQUIREMENTS:

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The CNC Machinist is responsible for assembling high-quality cutting tools used in various industrial applications. The role involves setting up and operating surface grinders, electronic discharge machines (EDM Drill), and blasting machines. The position requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work with specialized equipment and materials to ensure the efficient production of engineered cutting tools.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Receive and review work assignments; verify that work pieces and routing match regarding count, type, and proper sequence.
  2. Assemble cutting tools such as drills, milling cutters, and taps according to blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
  3. Ensure all components meet quality standards by performing inspections after assembly.
  4. Select and prepare raw materials for assembly, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
  5. Operate machinery and tools, such as balancing equipment, manual milling machines, and drill presses.
  6. Inspect parts for defects and ensure proper dimensions of assembled tools.
  7. Work closely with engineers and production managers to resolve technical issues or quality concerns.
  8. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols and guidelines.
  9. Document assembly processes and maintain accurate records of parts used and jobs completed.
  10. Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper working condition.
  11. Collaborate with team members to meet production schedules and ensure timely delivery of cutting tools.
  12. Enter all production information into the data collection system.
  13. Keep work area clean at all times.
  14. Monitor equipment performance; report problems and request maintenance to avoid downtime and damage.

EDUCATION: Associates degree with emphasis in machine tool operation or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience with basic machine operation or related technical training.
  • One year of direct machine setup and operation experience.
  • Experience involving principles of grinding.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions and shop drawings.
  • Average math skills; ability to calculate machine settings and adjustments.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring and testing equipment.
  • Computer literacy, including entering programs and instructions.
  • Experience operating CNC machines is strongly preferred.
