CNC Machine Operator

Position Objective:

Operates special-purpose equipment, conventional (lathe/mill), and/or numerical control (NC) machines for fabricating metallic and nonmetallic parts that meet the high-quality machine standards required within the organization.

Essential Functions:

  1. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to find dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  2. Operate CNC mill, CNC lathe, manual mill, and drill press
  3. Set up machinery and ensure all production materials are available
  4. Operate Fork Lift
  5. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine control as required
  6. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers
  7. Demonstrate a basic to intermediate skill level (indicate part, turn OD's, and qualify ID and OD)
  8. Ability to use inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.
  9. Document quality inspections as directed by SOP
  10. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and assigned area
  11. Assist SHEQ in promoting and monitoring Safety First initiatives and goals as stated in the MR Operational Policy throughout the organization
  12. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods
  13. Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Knowledge/Educational Requirements:

  1. A High School Diploma or GED is required
  2. An Associate of Arts or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in the machinist trade is a plus
  3. Basic computer skills

Experience Requirements:

  1. 2-4 years of experience working with CNC machines

Competency Requirements:

  1. Ability to operate equipment in a safe and controlled manner
  2. Follow instructions, both written and oral
  3. Work in an environment with frequently changing temperatures
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  5. Work with minimal guidance
  6. Work well with others and as part of a team
