Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. Assists residents with transfers, repositioning, walking, and provides range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assists with meals and snacks, and provides water and supplements as appropriate.
The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changing conditions to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, assists with wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in committees as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred. Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, or in the process of obtaining it within four months. CNA training and certification are provided by the facility. Must complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually). When applicable, must be registered with the UAP Registry and, depending on responsibilities, may require a valid driver’s license and be medically qualified to drive.
