Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and use Personal Protective Equipment. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to residents. Assists with transferring, repositioning, and walking using proper techniques and equipment. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, and assists residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as needed.

The NA also aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changes in resident condition. Collects non-invasive specimens, gathers vital signs, and provides housekeeping and laundry services. Supports wellness and recreational programs and may participate in organizational committees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred.
  • Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, or in the process of obtaining it within four months.
  • Completes yearly competency testing and maintains continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
  • For applicable states, certified and registered with the UAP Registry.
  • May require a valid driver’s license and medical clearance for driving responsibilities.
