Job summary

UCI Health seeks a Nursing Assistant to support professional nursing staff by performing vital signs, hygiene assistance, and routine clerical tasks. You will help with patient transport, specimen collection, and ADL support while ensuring privacy and safety on a busy hospital unit.

Qualifications include basic medical terminology, English proficiency, and current BLS certification. CNA enrollment or certification is required or preferred, with weekend/holiday availability expected.

Qualifications

• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be Certified Nurses Assistant or enrolled in accredited nursing program with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• CNAs hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant are not required to obtain it at this time.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA).
• Approved workplace violence responder training program within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Accurately measures and records vital signs and documents all activities.
• Assists with patient care activities as directed by the RN, including specimen collection, turning & positioning, and patient transportation.
• Assists with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, and Activities of Daily Living while maintaining patient privacy and a clean, safe environment.
• Demonstrates caring behaviors and uses independent judgment in work activities.
• Receives, inventories, and manages patient belongings and performs POCT quality controls as required.
