Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support professional and technical nursing staff by performing vital sign measurements, hygiene assistance, and patient care activities in a clean, safe unit environment. You will help stock supplies, operate hospital equipment as directed, and perform routine clerical tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Basic medical terminology knowledge.
• Must read, write and speak English.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be Certified Nurses Assist. or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA).
• Approved workplace violence responder training program within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter

Responsibilities

• Accurately measures and records vital signs; documents all activities.
• Assists with patient care activities as directed by the RN, including specimen collection, turning & positioning, and patient transportation.
• Assists patient with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
• Maintains a clean and safe unit environment and supports stocking of unit supplies.
• Operates hospital equipment as directed and performs routine clerical tasks as assigned.
