Job summary

UCI Health seeks a dedicated Nursing Assistant to support professional nursing staff in patient care. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting with hygiene and mobility, and ensuring a clean, safe unit environment.

You will work under the RN, perform clerical tasks as needed, and participate in maintaining quality care. The position emphasizes compassionate patient interactions, adherence to privacy standards, and collaboration with the care team.

Qualifications

• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be Certified Nursing Assistant or enrolled in accredited nursing program with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA).
• Approved workplace violence responder training program within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Accurately measures and records vital signs and documents activities.
• Assists with patient care activities as directed by the RN, including specimen collection, turning & positioning, and patient transportation.
• Assists patient with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, ADL, maintaining patient privacy and a clean, safe environment.
• Demonstrates independent judgement and proactive, deliberate actions regarding work activities.
• Receives, inventories, and sends patient belongings; performs Point of Care Testing (POCT) Quality Controls per standards as required.
