Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Security Engineer to safeguard AWS and Azure cloud environments in a technology and government services setting. You will implement and maintain security controls, automate monitoring, and support audits and risk assessments.

The role requires 5+ years in information security, hands-on cloud security experience, and strong scripting ability. Hybrid work with some onsite collaboration in Durham, NC and Fulton, MD is available.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in information security or cloud security engineering
• Hands-on experience securing AWS and/or Azure environments
• Knowledge of STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53
• Experience with vulnerability management and remediation
• IaC experience: Terraform/CloudFormation/ARM Templates
• Strong scripting: PowerShell, Python, Bash
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity or related field preferred
• Certs such as Security+, CISSP, CCSP, AWS/Azure Security specialty are a plus

Responsibilities

• Secure AWS/Azure environments per best practices
• Assess and remediate vulnerabilities across cloud infra and apps
• Implement controls per STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53
• Collaborate with engineers to strengthen security posture
• Develop automation for monitoring, remediation, and compliance validation
• Review cloud architectures and provide security recommendations
• Create security documentation and artifacts
• Support audits, risk assessments, and secure cloud operations
• Monitor threats and recommend mitigations
