Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Secret Cloud Security Engineer - AWS to join a rapidly growing technology and cloud services organization. The role requires deep expertise in AWS environments, compliance frameworks, and cloud security best practices to ensure secure, compliant, and resilient cloud infrastructure.

The candidate should be local to Raleigh, NC or Fulton, MD, and will work in a hybrid environment with on-site collaboration two days per week.

Qualifications

• Hands-on AWS security experience with IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, and WAF.
• Strong knowledge of secure cloud architecture and AWS infrastructure design.
• Proficiency with VPCs, security groups, NACLs, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Experience with STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and NIST 800-53 security controls.
• Automation scripting using Python, Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience with security tools such as Wiz or Tenable.
• Familiarity with SIEM for query and alerting (preferred).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• AWS Certified Security – Specialty or CISSP preferred; must obtain Secret Clearance if required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure AWS environments are securely configured and aligned with best practices.
• Validate compliance with STIGs and CIS benchmarks across cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor environments to maintain alignment with NIST 800-53 controls.
• Identify security gaps and create/manage remediation tickets.
• Schedule and lead meetings with stakeholders to review findings and configurations.
• Collaborate with DevOps, IT, and Compliance teams to support secure cloud operations.
• Automate security workflows using Terraform, CloudFormation, and Python.
• Maintain documentation for security policies, procedures, and configurations.
• Stay current with AWS security developments and emerging threats.
