Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Security Engineer to secure AWS and Azure environments, align with STIGs, CIS, and NIST 800-53, and drive cloud security across the organization.

The role requires 5+ years in information security, hands-on cloud security work, and experience with IaC and automation. It offers a hybrid schedule with two onsite days weekly in Durham, NC or Fulton, MD, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in information security, cybersecurity, or cloud security engineering.
• Hands-on experience securing AWS and/or Azure environments.
• Strong knowledge of STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53, and security frameworks.
• Experience with vulnerability management, risk assessment, and remediation processes.
• Proficiency with cloud security tools, monitoring platforms, and security automation technologies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM Templates).
• Knowledge of IAM, network security, encryption, and logging/monitoring best practices.
• Strong scripting/automation with PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
• Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure AWS and Azure environments are securely configured per best practices.
• Assess and remediate security vulnerabilities across cloud infra, apps, and services.
• Implement security controls aligned with STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, and NIST 800-53.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and teams to strengthen cloud security posture and compliance.
• Develop automation solutions for security monitoring, remediation, and compliance validation.
• Review cloud architectures and provide security recommendations for resiliency and ops efficiency.
• Create and maintain security documentation, procedures, and artifacts.
• Support audits, risk assessments, and secure cloud operations.
• Monitor emerging threats and advise on mitigations.
