The Role
This role collaborates with the Senior Manager of Cloud Operations in creating and reviewing strategic plans for the continuous development of practices related to creating reliable, scalable, and cost-effective systems that meet corporate and client standards. They will lead the Cloud team in reducing costs while also increasing security, reliability, and capability. As a skilled engineer and leader, this role is responsible for guiding the developmental work practices, professional growth, and project goal achievement for the Cloud team.
Job Duties
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to team on a day to day basis
- Establish operational objectives and work plans to determine expectations for goal attainment
- Lead team in implementing and carrying out strategic plans
- Delegate assignments to subordinate leadership team to achieve objectives
- Suggest and develop departmental policies to our Cloud Leadership
- Determine resource utilization to meet schedules and goals, including planning, staffing, budgeting, and managing expense priorities
- Provide performance feedback and conduct formal performance appraisals
- Provide support to employees in the establishment and achievement of goals
- Remove barriers, advocate for employees, identify performance improvement opportunities, and promote professional development
- Proactively establish and manage succession planning/professional development plans
- Ensure team compliance for all policy and procedure related information
- Recognize employee relations issue and provide guidance for resolution
- Participates in an on-call rotation in support of 24/7 production system
Requirements
Skills & Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Network Operations or related field, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of professional experience with public cloud platforms and complex environments involving many dependencies
- 7+ years of architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of application re-factoring/hosting and migration
- 3+ years of leadership experience within a technical team
- Extensive professional experience working with AWS and/or Azure cloud providers.
- Extensive professional experience scripting with Powershell, Python, Bash or other relevant language
- Extensive professional experience working in Agile and DevOps processes and activities on project execution
- Proficient with Terraform infrastructure automation tools
- Proficient with software development tools, operating systems, virtual and physical infrastructure, network topologies, and security models
- Automation first mindset and ability to turn documented manual steps into automated processes
- Proficient with build & CI automation tools
- Proficient with relational database administration, system administration, and SQL
- Comprehensive knowledge of network design & troubleshooting from the physical to application layers
- Proficient with Git source code management tools, artifact management and optimal workflows
- Proficient skills with monitoring and logging tools
- Comprehensive knowledge of task planning and development work practices
- Able to lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team and across departments to deliver results on time and within scope
- Able to negotiate with customers and management
- Able to provide feedback, encouragement, and training to reports to develop a professional work environment
- Understand the value of effective communication and leads the team in promoting communication within it
- Great organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively
- Great presentation and facilitation skills
- Certifications a plus
- Availability to be on call 24x7 under reasonable circumstances and schedule
