Job description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a lead cloud automation engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be working 100% remote and will focus on automation in support of the cloud infrastructure team. The candidate will work as part of an enterprise cloud services team, assisting in automating cloud infrastructure to ensure efficient, reliable, and scalable operations. The role involves developing and implementing automation tools and processes for the cloud infrastructure team.

The candidate's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Developing and deploying comprehensive cloud automation strategies to meet team requirements
2. Identifying automation tools and best practices, supporting their adoption across the team
3. Analyzing existing cloud processes to identify automation opportunities for optimization
4. Supporting automation needs of the cross-functional cloud infrastructure team
5. Implementing strategies to increase self-service infrastructure deployments using cloud-native services
6. Managing cloud infrastructure to ensure availability, scalability, and security through automation
7. Monitoring and optimizing cloud service performance via automation
8. Implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools like Terraform, CDK, and CloudFormation
9. Automating reporting on service usage, costs, etc.
10. Following best practices for pull request reviews, templates, git hooks, and branching strategies like Trunk-based or GitFlow
11. Managing IaC state, cross-account provisioning, and complex CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab CI
12. Applying concepts of continuous improvement and shift left
13. Using secrets management for sensitive data in pipelines and IaC code
14. Demonstrating architectural considerations for various infrastructure requirements
15. Supporting development of governance documentation and SOPs for automated processes

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 10 years of experience
• At least 5 years of experience with cloud technologies, especially AWS
• At least 3 years of experience with IaC tools like Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation
• At least 3 years of experience with Python or similar scripting languages and AWS SDKs like Boto3
• At least 3 years of experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI
• Experience automating self-service deployments using AWS services
• Must hold or be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
• Must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

• Kubernetes or AWS certifications
• Experience analyzing processes for automation opportunities
• Experience with automation reporting on cloud infrastructure services
