Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mentor Hospital in Mentor, OH is seeking a Clinical Technician to support the Med/Surg Unit, assisting with basic patient care, room upkeep and compassionate interaction with patients.

This role offers hands-on experience and growth within a world‑class health system in Mentor, Ohio. Night shifts run 6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m. with every‑other weekend and holiday rotation; duties include taking vital signs, aiding with transfers, dressing changes and assisting RNs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or Red Cross
• One year of recent, full-time patient care experience preferred
• Nursing students may substitute clinical rotation for required experience
• Military healthcare experience will be considered

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic patient care under RN supervision, including vital signs and weight checks
• Assist with personal care, transfers, and patient transport as needed
• Apply external monitoring devices and support phlebotomy tasks and ECGs
• Dressing changes and maintaining patient room cleanliness and order
• Report abnormal findings to an RN and document care provided

Caretakers at Mentor Hospital’s Med/Surg Unit provide care to adult patients with a variety of medical issues or patients preparing for or recovering from surgery. Med/surg caregivers care for a broad spectrum of patients, giving them a vast and broad clinical skillset.

As a Clinical Technician, you will assist with basic patient care, maintain room cleanliness and demonstrate empathy and compassion in all activities and interactions. A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, applying external monitoring devices, further technical skills of phlebotomy, 12-lead ECG's and removing urinary Foley Catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross before within new hire period (Nursing Students required to have BLS prior to hire)
• One year of recent, full-time patient care experience Additional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience)
• Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
• Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $19.25

Maximum hourly: $25.95
