Job summary

Cleveland Clinic on the Main Campus seeks a caregiver for the Neurology Stepdown Unit to provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN. You will assist with vital signs, daily living activities, transfers, and routine monitoring in a fast-paced unit.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and BLS certification. Candidates with 1 year of patient care experience or nursing student status may qualify; weekend/holiday rotation applies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within new hire period is required.
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one clinical rotation OR military medical experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision, including vital signs and activities of daily living.
  • Assist with patient transfers/transport and apply monitoring devices as needed.
  • Report abnormal findings to an RN and help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.

Cleveland Clinic’s H62/H63 Neurology Stepdown Unit provides top-quality patient care to diverse populations of neurological and medical-surgical patients. Caregivers in this unit care for young adult, adult, and geriatric patients with varying diagnoses of conditions, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subdural hematomas, status epilepticus/seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, and spinal injuries. Complex neurological procedures, such as intracranial pressure monitoring, seizure monitoring, lumbar punctures, blood transfusions, corpak placements, cervical traction placements and central/arterial line placement, are commonly done in this unit.

A caregiver in this position works days, 7:00am – 7:30pm. 3-12-hour shifts, weekend/holiday rotation.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within new hire period or American Red Cross
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR a nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $19.25

Maximum hourly: $25.95
