Job summary

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital is seeking a Clinical Staff Nurse to deliver high-quality patient care in the ICU setting. You will plan, direct, and coordinate nursing care for a defined patient population over 12-hour shifts, using the Watson Model of Care and SBAR communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Sciences degree preferred; ADN/diploma acceptable; Versant Nurse Residency for internal MLKCH candidates.
• California RN license required; basic EKG competence; Progressive/Critical Care nursing certification preferred.
• Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish); basic computer skills; CPI Blue Card within 90 days of hire; CPI course may be required; EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Performs focused nursing assessments and prioritizes care.
• Maintains age-appropriate care and applies current literature in decision making.
• Supports patient satisfaction initiatives and communicates effectively with patients and families.
• Develops therapeutic nurse-patient relationships and conducts hourly rounds.
• Communicates using SBAR during handoffs.
• Documents care in IPOC following unit and hospital policies.
• Anticipates patient comfort needs and adjusts interventions.
• Facilitates learning for patients and families.
• Collaborates with Care Managers for discharge planning.
• Reviews orders, communicates changes to physicians, and follows up with revised care.
• Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions and documents results.
• Uses patient classification systems per standards.
• Supervises ancillary staff and ensures shift evaluations for floats/registry.
• Assists in unit orientation and setup of equipment/rooms.
