Job summary

NC State University in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Clinical Research Technician – Small Animal Surgery to provide essential technical, administrative, and operational support across multiple active studies in the Small Animal Surgery Service.

You will coordinate prospective and retrospective clinical research, assist with regulatory documentation, manage research purchasing and inventory, and collaborate with clinicians, residents, students, staff, and pet owners to advance veterinary medicine.

Qualifications

  • RVT certification is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, REDCap, or similar database management tools to maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Experience in veterinary clinical research, hospital operations, and coordination of cadaveric or laboratory studies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate prospective and retrospective clinical research studies, ensuring activities are organized and conducted per study protocols.
  • Coordinate cadaveric research activities while assisting with regulatory documentation and study compliance.

About the Department

The Small Animal Surgery Service within the Department of Clinical Sciences supports the clinical, research, and educational missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Research activities include surgical oncology, orthopedic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, interventional procedures, and other areas of small animal clinical and translational research.

Join a collaborative clinical and surgical research team dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine through high-quality research. Working with Dr. Bae and Dr. McPhetridge, the Research Technician provides critical technical, administrative, and operational support that helps ensure the successful execution of multiple active research studies. This position plays an integral role in coordinating research activities, maintaining accurate data and regulatory records, and supporting studies from planning through completion while contributing to the overall success of the research program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research Coordination & Study Management: Coordinate prospective and retrospective clinical research studies, ensuring research activities are organized, completed on schedule, and conducted in accordance with study protocols.
  • Research Operations & Regulatory Support: Coordinate and support cadaveric research activities while assisting with regulatory documentation and study compliance requirements.
  • Research Operations & Regulatory Support: Manage research purchasing, inventory, and supply coordination to support the day-to-day operational needs of multiple active research projects.
  • Research Operations & Regulatory Support: Partner with clinicians, residents, students, staff, and pet owners to facilitate research activities and ensure effective communication throughout the research process.
  • Research Operations & Regulatory Support: Maintain organized research records, support confidential data management, and provide administrative and operational assistance that contributes to the overall efficiency of the research program.

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, REDCap, or similar database management tools, with the ability to maintain accurate and confidential clinical research records.
  • Experience in veterinary clinical research, veterinary hospital operations, retrospective medical record review, owner/client communication, research purchasing and inventory management, and coordination of cadaveric or laboratory-based research projects.
