Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an experienced Medical Coding Specialist to bridge between physicians and coding teams. You will lead education, audit processes, and documentation improvements across multiple specialties, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Remote-friendly environment with annual updates and targeted provider training. Applicants should have AHIMA/AAPC credentials, 3+ years in physician coding, and strong Excel/Epic skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • AHIMA and/or AAPC professional coder certification maintained annually.
  • 3+ years physician medical coding in a multi-specialty clinic.
  • 2+ years residency program (teaching hospital) with surgical E/M coding and related specialties.
  • 2+ years providing expert coding guidance to physicians and coders.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MUE and NCCI classifications and reimbursement.
  • Intermediate Windows PC proficiency, MS Excel, and Epic experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between coding teams and providers to resolve inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Edits and Denials to analyze trends and educate or system-edit issues.
  • Partner with clinical leadership during introduction of new services for accurate documentation.
  • Participate in quarterly meetings to provide coding education and ad hoc responses.
  • Deliver comprehensive coding and documentation training for newly onboarded providers.
  • Provide annual education on code set updates to maintain compliance.
  • Conduct annual provider audits to validate charges and identify revenue opportunities.
  • Educate coders and providers on audit findings and emerging trends.
