Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to perform routine PT treatments under the direction of a licensed PT. You will document patient progress, assist with program development, and mentor students and interns while supporting department operations.

The role requires a PTA/PT program graduate with an active license in Texas, BLS certification, and at least one year of experience. Ability to lift, stand, and communicate effectively is essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PTA or PT program.
• Current license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
• Current Certification in Basic Life Support.
• One year of experience preferred.
• Demonstrates leadership in operational or clinical programs.
• Lifting up to 75/100 pounds, carrying up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; walking, stooping and squatting.
• Excellent oral and written communication; able to receive and relay information clearly.
• Visual ability to monitor instruments and equipment; distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient.
• Implements a physical therapy treatment program as described by a PT’s written plan of care.
• Provides PT services under supervision; treatments are modified only as allowed by the plan of care.
• Demonstrates physical therapy skills competently.
• May screen patients for PT services under the direction of a PT.
• Monitors patient progress toward treatment goals.
• Supervises rehabilitation technicians and other staff in patient care.
• Instructs patients/caregivers and communicates with supervising PT, physicians, and insurance companies.
• Manages time effectively and documents appropriately in the medical record.
• Serves as a clinical instructor for PTA interns.
• Promotes professional growth and adheres to policies and standards.
