Pharmacy Alternatives in Christiansburg, VA is seeking a PRN Pharmacist to join our closed-door, long-term care pharmacy team. This non-retail role focuses on safe medication management for residents, with opportunities for independent work and clinical collaboration.

You’ll evaluate orders, provide recommendations, maintain patient profiles, ensure regulatory compliance, and document interventions. The position offers competitive hourly pay and benefits in a flexible, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy required or PharmD preferred.
• One year experience in long-term care desired.
• Current and valid pharmacist license in the state of practice.
• Knowledge of drug therapy guidelines, medication safety practices, and regulatory standards (CMS, DEA, FDA).
• Proficiency in electronic medical records and pharmacy information systems.
• Strong clinical judgement and effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate physician medication orders for drug appropriateness, dosage, interactions, and administration route.
• Provide clinical recommendations to physicians and healthcare staff on therapy changes and optimizations.
• Maintain up-to-date patient/resident profiles including medical history, labs and current meds.
• Ensure lab tests for monitoring high-risk meds are ordered, reviewed, and communicated to the team.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical and technical support.
• Document communications and interventions in the patient record, including with families and caregivers.
• Implement and enforce policies for safe handling, dispensing and management of medications.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
