Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando, FL is seeking a Pharmacist for 2nd shift (Mon-Fri 14:30-23:00 with every 4th weekend). Responsibilities include counseling patients, ensuring safe medication therapy, and active participation in stewardship and care transitions. Must hold Pharmacist license and have a PharmD background.

Experience in a hospital setting is strongly preferred; opportunities exist to lead, mentor staff, and contribute to quality improvement and clinical programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Licensure as Pharmacist (RPH) required.
  • Field of study: PharmD.
  • 1+ hospital experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate and counsel patients, families, and healthcare team on medication use.
  • Provide safe, timely, and cost-effective therapy; participate in stewardship and monitoring.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy staff and students; support team development.
  • Manage medication orders, verify prescriptions, and document medications.
  • Participate in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and performance tracking.

Job Description:
  • Schedule: 2nd Shift Monday - Friday from 1430-2300 with every 4th weekend coverage
  • Educate and counsel patients, families, and healthcare team members on safe and effective medication use.
  • Provide safe, timely, and cost-effective medication therapy; actively participate in stewardship, surveillance, and restricted-use programs.
  • Engage in direct patient care and interdisciplinary rounds, ensuring smooth transitions of care from admission through discharge and follow-up.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy technicians, interns, students, and residents; support team learning and development.
  • Identify, report, and help resolve medication safety events, adverse drug reactions, and errors.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with EHRs, pharmacy informatics systems, and medication automation to optimize clinical decision support and documentation.
  • Contribute to professional advancement through practice innovation, research, specialty alignment (e.g., critical care, oncology, infectious disease), committee participation, and scholarly activity.
  • Perform all pharmacist functions including compounding, dispensing, verification, and documentation of medications across central, satellite, and IV areas.
  • Review and monitor medication orders and patient profiles to prevent, identify, and resolve drug-related problems; complete pharmacist consults and perform pharmacokinetic dosing, monitoring, and adjustments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and accreditation activities; track performance metrics (e.g., interventions, error reduction, cost savings).
