Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a licensed pharmacist in Illinois to support pharmaceutical services across the Medical Center. You will compound and dispense medications, verify dosages, and perform therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure patient-specific dosing.

Strong collaboration with nurses and physicians is essential to resolve dosing questions. Proficiency with HBOC and Omnicell systems, IV admixture, and chemotherapy knowledge is required.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Pharmacist – IDFPR in Illinois.
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
  • Working knowledge of chemotherapy agents and IV admixture.
  • Experience with narcotic control and investigational drugs.
  • Ability to monitor therapeutic drug levels and dosing.
  • Strong communication with nurses and physicians about orders.

Job description


  • • Implement pharmaceutical services to patients throughout the Medical Center

  • • Accurately compound and dispense medications

  • • Provide clinical functions including therapeutic drug monitoring and patient-appropriate dosing

  • • Check all medications leaving the department for quality assurance

  • • Dispense medications from physician orders

  • • Enter orders accurately into the computer and furnish current medication administration reports

  • • Verify physician-ordered dosages are appropriate for each patient

  • • Check refills, unit-dose medications, and IV preparations for filling and labeling accuracy

  • • Work with healthcare professionals to provide appropriate and cost-effective drug therapy

  • • Communicate with nurses and physicians regarding medication orders and resolve problems or questions

  • • Participate in planning new pharmacy functions and updating current services

  • • Participate in in-service programs relating to new procedures, policies, equipment, and treatments

  • • Participate in departmental and external projects

  • • Enter oral and IV medications into the HBOC System

  • • Oversee technicians operating the Omnicell System

  • • Dose drugs through the Pharmacokinetic Dosing Service

  • • Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions


Requirements


  • Licensed Pharmacist - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

  • Bachelor's Degree: Pharmacy

  • Working knowledge of chemotherapy agents

  • Working knowledge of hyperalimentation

  • Working knowledge of IV admixture

  • Working knowledge of narcotic control

  • Working knowledge of investigational drugs

  • Working knowledge of therapeutic drug monitoring

  • Working knowledge of medication storage and dispensing guidelines

  • Competence communicating with healthcare professionals regarding medication orders, including non-formulary drugs, allergies, drug interactions, drug compatibilities, and dosing questions

  • Ability to use sound judgment related to patient care

  • Competence working with various computer systems, writing in patient charts, dosing medications based on patient-specific parameters, and performing other clinical functions

  • Ability to use HBOC System and Omnicell System

  • Ability to dose all drugs in Pharmacokinetic Dosing Service

  • Ability to monitor adverse drug reactions
