Job summary

JobRx, Inc. seeks a licensed pharmacist to provide consultative services to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff.

This role involves clinical and professional pharmaceutical work in the compounding and dispensing of medications under the direction of the Pharmacy Director. You will supervise pharmacy technicians, ensure safe and effective medication use, stay current with new medications, and participate in quality improvement initiatives, all while maintaining compliance with federal and state

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy from an accredited institution.
  • Two years previous experience as a hospital pharmacist preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides consultative services to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff. Performs clinical and professional pharmaceutical work in the compounding and dispensing of medications according to professional standards of practice under the direction of the Pharmacy Director. Assumes supervisory pharmacist responsibilities in the absence of the Pharmacy Director.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • A Conducts drug utilization reviews (DURs) and prepares drug review criteria for review by QI, P&T, infection control, medical staff, and/or other committees as required/requested.
  • B Consult with and advise medical staff personnel regarding utilization of medications as they relate to patient care.
  • C Keeps abreast of the latest developments concerning new medications or developments regarding usage.
  • D Advises staff/caregivers, using good clinical judgment, on the correct use of various medications including dosages, side effects, composition, food/drug interactions, stability, and other relevant information.
  • E Assists with department QI program including preparing reports, collection, collation, and analyzing of data. Able to identify problems, issues, or trends related to any function of department or patient care. Able to communicate information to others to generate safer practices and provide quality patient care.
  • F Monitors drug therapy for clinical appropriateness (disease status conflicts, adverse drug reactions, incompatibility issues, appropriateness for age, weight, diagnosis, duplicate therapy issues, etc) and demonstrates appropriate interventions.
  • G Consult on medications that are non-reimbursable and make reasonable suggestions or interventions for alternate therapy.
  • H Prepares clear and concise written clinical briefs for use by medical staff and pharmacy.
  • I Ensures delivery of quality pharmacy services for inpatients, outpatients, and employees.
  • J Identifies and follows policies and procedures, rules and regulations, protocols, and standards of care and notifies supervisor when breeches occur or when there is potential for errors.
  • K Check stock regularly to identify and reorder outdated stock and ensure that stock is maintained in accordance with manufacturer requirements. Identifies pricing or product changes and demonstrates appropriate follow-up.
  • L Supervises pharmacy technicians in their daily duties.
  • M Ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances. Ensures maintenance of perpetual inventory of controlled substances. Notifies the supervisor of any irregularity.
  • N Assists in preparation of various required reports by compiling, recording, and filing needed information
  • O Assists and supervises pharmacy technicians in checking incoming shipments and arranges for their storage, inventory stock levels, forwards new items or price changes to the supervisor, etc.
  • P Assists in supervision and training of new pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
  • Q Actively participates in the review of policies, procedures, and protocols on an annual basis. Assists with the development of and revisions to ensure they meet current practice standards.
  • R Assists with or participates in departmental projects as requested/required.
  • S Maintains knowledge of regulatory standards and standards of care as applied to the pharmacy.
  • T Perform all job functions according to federal and state regulations.
  • U Demonstrates technical competency and safety through the ability to select the best pharmaceutical methods for all necessary procedures, by maintaining certifications of any specialized area of training and by attending training and in-services as available.
  • V Maintains harmonious relationships and open line of communication within the pharmacy department, other departments, staff, physicians, and other support personnel providing support and assistance to ensure quality patient care.
  • W Maintain a positive and professional atmosphere with patients, their families, the public, other agencies, etc. demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively.
  • X Participate in rotation of stand-by call and telephone consultations responding according to department policies and procedure and needs.
  • Y Responsible for all dispensing functions and issues of the department while on duty or on-call.
  • Z Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.
  • ZZ Other related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION: Doctor of Pharmacy or equivalent
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Two years previous experience as a hospital pharmacist preferred
