Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health in Kentucky is seeking a Clinical Nursing Student for the Patient Care Technician (PCT) role in Ortho and Oncology at West Hospital. Under RN guidance, you will provide direct patient care and gain clinical experience through job shadowing and delegated tasks.

Responsibilities include assisting with nursing process, recording vital signs, hygiene, mobility, documentation, and effective communication with the care team.

Qualifications

• HS/GED (required)
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required)
• BLS (preferred)
• Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Supports the nurse in applying the nursing process.
• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery.
• Seeks educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking.
• Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility.
• Liaises between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Delivers high level customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Documents patient care accurately and timely.
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
• Participates in patient data collection and documentation (vital signs, intake/outtake, changes in condition).
• Performs basic hygiene and ADL activities including ambulation, feeding, hydration and bowel/bladder management.
• Uses clinical technology as applicable.
• Escalates concerns through the chain of command.
