Operating Room Pod 1

Barnes Jewish Hospital – Main Campus

Role Details

1. Four 10-hour shifts (6:30 AM start time)
2. Call: Three 12-hour shifts every 6 weeks
3. Focus on abdomen and pelvis, GYN, urology, general surgery, colorectal
4. 13 operating rooms, including integrated ORs and 4 robots
5. Learn a variety of surgical cases
6. Holidays: One 8-hour shift per year, rotating winter/spring
7. Graduate Nurse Eligibility: Yes
8. Orientation: 6-8 months for early career nurses, 3 months for experienced nurses

Overview

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within nursing standards.

Responsibilities

1. Promote patient and family-centered care, educating on illness management, post-treatment care, and medications.
2. Participate in safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and professional development activities.
3. Develop, implement, and document care plans collaboratively with patients and the healthcare team.
4. Assess physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, respecting patient values and cultural considerations.
5. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's Degree in Nursing

Experience: No experience required

Licenses & Certifications: RN license

Preferred Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Experience: Less than 2 years
