*Base Pay Range: $91,499 - $133,827 per year, based on experience

ABOUT Medical Specialty


Medical Specialties is one of the fastest growing service lines at University Hospital, recently expanding from 28 to 55 beds. The unit sees patients who are ill and require acute care, serving a wide-ranging population. The most frequent diagnosis types include pulmonary compromise, sepsis, GI disorders, diabetes, cellulitis, infectious diseases, mental status changes, and substance withdrawal.



The unit is a great place to learn about a broad variety of patient types and diagnoses to further your nursing career. Daily safety and communication huddles ensure timely communication of expectations and patient needs, giving team members a cohesive and positive learning environment while providing excellent care.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION



Develop and implement educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of inpatient nursing staff.

Coordinate and conduct orientation programs for new nursing staff, ensuring thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and best practices.

Provide ongoing education and training on new clinical practices, technologies, and evidence-based guidelines to improve patient care outcomes.

Facilitate skills labs, workshops, and in-service training sessions to address identified learning needs and promote professional development.

Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in overseeing daily operations of the nursing unit, ensuring adherence to standards of care, policies, and regulatory requirements.

Provide guidance, support, and supervision to nursing staff, including performance feedback, coaching, and counseling as needed.

Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager and support staff to address staffing needs, scheduling conflicts, and workload distribution to maintain optimal staffing levels and workflow efficiency.

Participate in performance evaluations and contribute to the identification of staff development opportunities and training needs.

Monitor and evaluate clinical practices and patient care activities to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and task forces to drive continuous improvement in patient care outcomes and nursing practices.

Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, guidelines, and quality measures to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.

Foster effective communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary team members to promote a culture of teamwork, respect, and professionalism.

Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, management, and other departments to facilitate the exchange of information, resolve issues, and coordinate patient care activities.

Act as a resource and advocate for nursing staff, addressing concerns, promoting positive morale, and fostering a supportive work environment.

Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.

Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Two (2) years of acute or urgent care nursing experience.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree if hired after September 1, 2024.




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical supervision.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
