Job summary

Driscoll Children’s Hospital seeks a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory patient care teams. The role includes performing vital signs, phlebotomy, clerical tasks, patient preparation, immunizations, and routine lab duties in a pediatric setting.

The candidate should have a medical assistant program, be BLS certified, and show a willingness to pursue CMA/RMA certification within two years. Prior CMA/RMA experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of medical assistant training course accredited by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education or CAAHEP.
• Prior experience as a certified medical assistant preferred.
• Basic knowledge of computer.
• Current BLS or within six months of hire.
• Attempt National Certification or Registry as Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist health care providers and clerical staff in ambulatory patient care areas.
• Performs vital signs and measurements in age-appropriate manner.
• Phlebotomy procedures and ancillary testing; assist with medication refills as directed.
• Clerical duties including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling, insurance pre-authorizations, chart prep.
• Prepare patients for examination and document findings.
• Administer prescribed medications and immunizations as directed.
• Maintain patient records and assist with lab duties and record-keeping.
