Job summary

Cal Poly is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform a broad range of clinical duties, including diagnostic tests, phlebotomy, patient intake, vital signs, and specimen collection within scope of practice. The role supports daily clinical operations, including exam room prep, instrument sterilization, inventory control, and maintaining a safe environment for patient care.

It also coordinates scheduling, referrals, insurance communications, and clinical documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
• Certificate of completion from an accredited and approved medical assisting program through the Department of Education or Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education within the Department of Consumer Affairs or equivalent, the supervising CSU physician must verify competencies.
• Basic life support (or higher) CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers (by date of hire).

Responsibilities

• Performs a broad range of clinical medical assistant duties, including diagnostic testing, phlebotomy, patient intake, vital signs, treatment assistance, and specimen collection within scope of practice.
• Supports daily clinical operations through exam room preparation, instrument sterilization, inventory and supply management, and maintenance of a safe patient care environment.
• Coordinates patient care by managing scheduling, registration, referrals, insurance communication, electronic health records, and clinical documentation.
• Provides front office and administrative support, serving as the primary point of contact for patients while coordinating appointments and communication for medical, counseling, and psychological services.
• Reviews student health records and performs related clinical and administrative duties to support efficient healthcare delivery.
