Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring for a non-exempt Medical Assistant in Worcester, MA. The role supports patient flow, performs vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and routine clinic procedures while ensuring accurate documentation and communication with licensed clinicians.

The position requires a High School diploma, BLS certification, and a MA-approved Medical Assistant credential. Work hours are 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday, with a 40-hour schedule and potential signing bonus

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS/HS certification required or obtainable within 3 months of hire.
• Medical Assistant credential approved by MA Dept. of Health.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients, record vital signs, and document patient status.
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and POC tests per clinic standards.
• Assist with injections, examinations, and lab result review.
• Maintain clean rooms, equipment, and inventory, and process prescriptions.
• Coordinate with insurers for coverage, pre-authorizations, and referrals.
• Collect co-pays and maintain patient records in the EMR.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification

Medical Assistant credential

Equivalent combination of education and experience
