Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform routine and complex analyses on clinical specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory. The role includes verifying method performance and ensuring quality results, while operating and calibrating instruments.

You will mentor ALT/MLT staff, collaborate with healthcare teams, and participate in continuing education to support professional growth and patient care excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program.
• If located in Pennsylvania: MLS, MT, Categorical or Specialty ASCP Certification, required within 1 year of hire.
• If located in New York: Clinical Laboratory Technologist required within 6 months of hire for new graduates.
• Preferred 1 to 2 year's clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and highly complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens using established criteria to ensure quality results.
• Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for test methods.
• Operates, calibrates, checks, and maintains instrumentation; recognizes QC issues and takes corrective action.
• Provides oversight and mentors ALT, MLT, phlebotomists, students, and new staff per policies and regulations.
• Serves as a consultant to staff and other providers; participates in continuing education to support growth.
• May collect and process patient specimens within policy and time frames.
