Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support specimen procurement, testing, and processing. The role includes data entry, inventory management, and customer service to ensure smooth specimen processing and result entry.

Core duties span verifying test requests, handling patient information, and assisting with storage, preparation, and transport of specimens. Some phlebotomy desk support and attendance for variable hours are possible.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of previous clinical laboratory experience required or B.S. in Biological Sciences or second year MLS/MLT program.

Responsibilities

• Enters and verifies test requests accurately and efficiently.
• Obtains, enters and verifies patient information accurately and efficiently.
• Assists with specimen storage, retrieval and disposal following standard precautions.
• Performs technical duties: collects Fine Needle Aspirations, processes specimens, prepares bone marrow smears, slide processing, instrument maintenance, slide staining, thermometer calibration, plating for Microbiology.
• Prepares samples for transport to reference lab and reviews pending logs.
• Provides telephone support for notification of non-critical test values and prints reports.
• Assists with inventory management and restocks reagents and supplies.
• Monitors and maintains lab equipment and safety protocols.
