Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Lab Assistant for PRN on-site support in the laboratory. Responsibilities include handling orders, specimen transport, pre-analytic and analytic processing, and phlebotomy as needed.

You may work with histology, lab glassware, and send-out testing; familiarity with LIS and MS Office preferred. High school diploma required; 0–2 years experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic biology and chemistry preferred.
• Graduate of an approved medical assistant, EMT, or phlebotomy program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews orders for tests and converts to correct tests in LIS.
• Obtains, receives, and processes specimens prior to testing.
• Utilizes sterile specimen handling techniques during handling and processing.
• Performs pre-analytical tasks per protocols.
• Performs analytical tasks per protocols.
• Prepares specimens for send-out testing.
• Performs phlebotomy duties as required.
• Ensures regulatory and safety standards compliance.
• Collects glassware and handles/sterilizes supplies/glassware as needed.
• Collects specimens/slides for Histology as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.
