Job summary

Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA seeks a Clinical Lab Scientist to perform complex laboratory tests across hematology, chemistry, microbiology and more, ensuring accurate and timely results for patient care.

You will operate instruments, monitor quality control, interpret results, and maintain regulatory compliance while collaborating with clinicians and other lab staff in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• CA Clinical Lab Scientist license required.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• Preferred: 1 year acute care hospital experience.
• ASCP CT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with physicians, nurses, ward clerks and other health care professionals to resolve issues with specimen collection, handling, orders and result reporting.
• Consults with Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Laboratory Supervisors, Administrative Director of Laboratory Services, Medical Director, or Pathologists for policy clarification and problem resolution.
• Operates the lab computer system according to department manuals.
• Familiarity with general laboratory safety practices, MSDS, California regulations, OSHA standards, CDC recommendations and universal precautions.
• Participates in the clinical laboratory scientist teaching program to assist in training CLS students, MLT students, or other programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
