Job summary

Mercy Health in Youngstown is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) for the Core Laboratory at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. You will perform routine tests, ensure quality results, and maintain patient safety while working with a skilled team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program (required)
• MLS Certification or eligible by a recognized certification agency (ASCP preferred) (required)
• Externship program completed (preferred)
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment; engage with staff and patients professionally

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner per procedures
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or by recognizing abnormal/unusual results
• Recognizes factors affecting measurements and takes action per protocols
• Performs quality control for all testing and ensures results meet established ranges
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment including equipment checks and proper laboratory practices
