Qualifications

• Phlebotomy training must meet needs of newborn through geriatric populations.
• California Phlebotomy Certificate required for blood collection.
• AHA BLS certificate is required for employees that draw blood and have patient contact.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephones, charting, and input specimen collection information into the Laboratory Information System.
• Admit outpatients into the Hospital Information System and distribute and deliver patient reports.
• Ensure specimens are processed promptly and delivered to the appropriate departments for analysis.
• Assist the supervisor in checking bills from reference laboratories and outside vendors.
• May perform blood specimen collection using venipuncture or capillary techniques.
