Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL, is seeking a Clinical Lab Assistant for a full-time role. The position is 40 hours per week with shifts from 7:00am to 3:30pm and every other weekend.

The CL Assistant supports main lab staff, handles specimen processing in LIS, and contributes to accurate data entry and patient care. The role requires a High School Diploma, with a preference for at least 1 year in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Preferred: 1 year of experience in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy department.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with main lab staff, other departments, nurses and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
• Receive specimens into the laboratory information system.
• Input and retrieve lab results in the LIS or hospital system.
• Register specimen dropoffs (e.g., Home health) in LIS with accurate data entry.
• Distribute specimens to the appropriate testing area.
• Identify and solve problems with supervisor/manager support as needed.
• Perform waived testing under CLS direction as applicable.
• Ensure correct sample types and containers for testing.
• Communicate specimen rejections, critical results to clinical staff and document accordingly.
• Monitor refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records as needed.
• Adhere to lab procedures and follow up on outstanding orders.
