Clinical Lab Assistant

University of Alabama at Birmingham

This position will perform duties related to the preparation, distribution, cataloging, and storage of lab specimens for testing.

Responsibilities include:

1. Retrieving lab specimens from collection areas and patient files needed in the lab.
2. Processing, packaging, and storing autologous tissue.
3. Cleansing operating rooms.
4. Adhering to departmental specimen identification policies and quality controls.
5. Utilizing lab and hospital information systems and performing outpatient registration for specimens received via mail and UPS.
6. Providing secretarial and clerical support, including inventory management, ordering, and receiving supplies.
7. Responding to the needs of patients from newborn to geriatric age groups.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics:

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Hourly Range: $15.00 - $20.30

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Certification as a Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) from the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is required depending on location.
