Responsibilities

Job Summary

Assist with specified technical procedures in one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Perform tasks requiring skills in phlebotomy and general office duties, including customer service, clerical work, and data entry.

Essential Functions

• Retrieve specimens from pneumatic tube system and initiate processing. Prepare samples for analysis by manual or automated methods according to section procedures and standards. Distribute samples to work areas and load specimens on designated instruments as applicable. Assist technicians in blood bank, micro, or other department-specific duties.
• Prepare specimens for out-of-network reference testing, including completing requisitions, packaging, storage, and notifying couriers for pickup.
• Perform and document instrument verification, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure proper operation per section guidelines.
• Answer phone calls, follow up on requests, maintain inventory and supplies, review policies and procedures, and assist in training new staff and students.
• Perform phlebotomy as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED - Required

Experience

• 2 to 5 years of phlebotomy/CLA experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• American Medical Technologist (AMT) Certified Office Laboratory Technician (COLT) OR
• Certificate of Completion for Laboratory Assisting program from an accredited school OR
• Certificate of Completion Laboratory Assistant Program OR Certified Office Laboratory Technician (AMT) or equivalent - Preferred
• Certificate of Completion of Laboratory Assisting Program OR equivalent certification - Required
• No certification required for individuals with 1 to 2 years lab experience
