Responsibilities

Job Summary

The ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICAL ASSISTANT I performs lab assistant duties in sections like Cytology, Histology, or Surgical Pathology, including receiving, accessioning, processing specimens, organizing workloads, and supporting lab functions. Ensures quality patient care through Laboratory Services for all age groups, maintaining confidentiality of specimens and data.

Essential Functions

• Receives and verifies specimens, ensuring integrity, proper labeling, and documentation, following proper procedures and confidentiality standards.
• Accession specimens into the LIS system, label accurately, and ensure proper assembly for processing.
• Prepares and processes specimens manually or automatically per lab procedures and standards.
• Prepares, stains, and coverslips specimens for diagnosis, including intra-operative specimens, and assembles case slides.
• Prepares reagents and solutions, maintains staining equipment, and disposes of waste properly.
• Handles telephone inquiries courteously, refers questions appropriately, and manages messages and requests.
• Supports tasks like filing, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory.
• Performs daily Quality Control procedures and documents according to policies.
• Maintains lab equipment, documentation, cleanliness, and adheres to OSHA, chemical hygiene, and biohazard guidelines, handling hazardous materials safely.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

• 1 year of Anatomic Pathology lab assistant experience preferred.
