Responsibilities
Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant assists with technical procedures in one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Tasks include phlebotomy, customer service, clerical work, and data entry.

Essential Functions
  • Retrieve specimens from the pneumatic tube system, initiate processing, and prepare samples for analysis according to procedures and standards. Distribute samples and load onto instruments as applicable.
  • Prepare specimens for reference testing, including completing requisitions, packaging, storing, and notifying couriers for pickup.
  • Verify instrument functions, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and document on laboratory equipment.
  • Answer phone calls, follow up on requests, maintain inventory, review policies, and assist in training new staff and students.
  • Perform phlebotomy as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • 2 to 5 years of phlebotomy or Clinical Laboratory Assistant experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • AMT Certified Office Laboratory Technician (COLT) or equivalent required.
  • Completion certificate from an accredited Laboratory Assisting program required.
  • Additional certifications such as Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent preferred.
  • For individuals with 1-2 years of lab experience, certification may not be required.
