Job Description - CLINICAL LAB ANIMAL VETERINARIAN (2) (T221854)
The Animal Resource Program (ARP) seeks two Clinical Lab Animal Veterinarians to join its team. The ARP is the primary unit providing care for all animals used in research and teaching programs at UAB and affiliated hospitals. Operating under the administrative authority of the UAB President, the ARP is managed by the Associate Vice President for Research Facilities and Infrastructure and reports to the Vice President for Research. It oversees approximately 215,000 square feet of space dedicated to laboratory animal care.
In this role, veterinarians will provide clinical and surgical medical care for various animal species used in research and training. Responsibilities include supporting health surveillance and preventative medicine programs, participating in the teaching and training of departmental personnel and research staff, and reviewing animal use requests to ensure compliance with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and animal welfare regulations. The role also involves supervising veterinary staff, providing emergency veterinary care, and contributing to all laboratory animal care and use program aspects, including research, grant writing, equipment and process evaluation, facility tours, and the development of standard operating procedures. Duties & Responsibilities:
Salary Range: $94,375 - $153,355 (commensurate with experience)
Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and two (2) years of related experience required OR Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and completion of a related training program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently credentialed as an American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Diplomate by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or similar board veterinary specialty (i.e., American College of Veterinary Surgeons or American College Veterinary Pathologist) required. State of Alabama Veterinary License must be obtained within two (2) years from hire date.
