Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Financial Counselor to coordinate pre-registration and financial clearance for scheduled and non-scheduled patient appointments. This role supports outpatient and inpatient services at the Hybrid/JH Greenspring Station location.

Responsibilities include insurance verification, referrals and authorizations when applicable, and communicating financial information to patients and referring physicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-2 years of related medical office, hospital, medical call center or similar customer service environment.
• Certification on host systems to be obtained during 120-day introductory period.
• Final applicant may be required to complete skills assessments.
• Additional education may substitute for required experience per JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

• Serve a liaison between the physician, insurance company and patient to ensure all services are financially cleared prior to the date of service.
• Effectively use budget resources within control.
• Confide with team lead or supervisor prior to decisions based on policies and protocols.
• Read and understand requisitions, referral and insurance forms, patient data and other forms.
• Read and understand insurance screens and departmental protocols.
• Read and understand written product directions and use information in protocols to fulfill duties.
