Job summary

The Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a Custodian III at Austin State Hospital to perform high-level custodial work in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities include cleaning, disinfecting patient areas, restrooms, offices, and treatment spaces; restocking supplies; inspecting facilities; and supporting infection control programs. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and may involve irregular hours.

Qualifications

• One year of custodial/housekeeping or environmental services work in a hospital or similar setting.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
• Flexibility for irregular hours and possible overtime per agency policies.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning, dusting, disinfection of restrooms, offices, treatment areas and patient bedrooms.
• Restock supplies and maintain inventory controls for custodial items.
• Inspect buildings and equipment, identify issues and follow up with appropriate actions.
• Assist Custodian Manager with hospital safety and infection control programs.
• Participate in disaster response/COOP activities and may shift location as required.
