Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin seeks a Professional Billing CDI Clinical Specialist to optimize patient documentation with providers, aligning clinical practice with coding and reimbursement requirements. You will act as an APP clinical authority for complex documentation scenarios and partner across CDI, coding, informatics, and revenue cycle teams.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree in nursing or other applicable advanced practice discipline.
• Active Advanced Practice Provider license/certification consistent with organizational requirements.
• Minimum 5 years of recent clinical practice experience.
• Preferred: experience in ambulatory, professional billing, or provider-facing documentation environments.
• Knowledge of CDI, coding, informatics, or documentation improvement principles is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs independent clinical assessment of documentation to ensure accurate reflection of diagnostic reasoning and medical necessity.
• Provides peer-level consultation to physicians and APPs on clinical documentation and medical necessity.
• Evaluates how documentation workflows impact care delivery and recommends workflow changes.
• Serves on documentation governance committees and advises on standards and education.
• Supports appeals involving diagnosis validity and documentation integrity.
• Collaborates with IT, informatics, and operational teams to implement documentation tools.
