Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Missouri is seeking an entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to join the Department of Food and Nutrition. You will provide medical nutrition therapy, nutrition assessments, discharge planning, and care coordination as part of an interprofessional team.

The role focuses on applying evidence-based practice, collaborating with patients and families, and contributing to patient outcomes. A Master’s Degree is required and Licensure/Registration are expected.

Overview

The Department of Food and Nutrition serves patient, retail, and catering needs across both the North and South Campus. It includes patient meal and clinical nutrition services, the Queeny Tower Restaurant, three cafeterias, and three coffee bars. The department’s role is to meet the nutritional needs of patients, visitors, and employees with excellent customer service and to provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to improve clinical status and assist in healing.

Role Purpose

The registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) works within an interprofessional team and with patients and families to provide MNT, conduct nutrition assessments, interventions, education, discharge planning, and care coordination for acute or chronic conditions. This entry‑level position focuses on meeting basic objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Identify nutrition‑related problems, determine nutrition diagnoses, prioritize interventions, and document plans of care including diet orders and patient education.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patients and families understand the nutrition support therapy prescription.
  • Evaluate evidence that the nutrition intervention is influencing desirable changes in patient status.
  • Review best available research and evidence, apply to practice, and share evidence‑based knowledge with patients, colleagues, and the public.
  • Identify efficient workflow patterns to optimize time management and maximize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain a safety‑sensitive stance, working in constant alertness and adhering to safe practices.
