Job summary

Parkland Health Center, part of BJC HealthCare, is seeking an entry-level Registered Dietitian to provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition assessment within a supportive interprofessional team at our Farmington, Missouri campus.

This role emphasizes patient education, care coordination, and discharge planning with a focus on quality outcomes across inpatient and outpatient services; a Master's in Dietetics and RD licensure are required.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required.
  • No experience needed (entry level).
  • Licensure: Dietitian licensure for state employment and RD certification.

Responsibilities

  • Identify nutrition problems, determine nutrition diagnoses, plan care, and educate patients and families on nutrition plans.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure patient understanding of nutrition therapy and monitor outcomes.
  • Review current evidence and apply best practices to patient care.
  • Share evidence-based knowledge with patients, colleagues and the public, tailoring to customer needs.
  • Identify efficient workflows to optimize time and care outcomes.
  • Role is safety-sensitive; must maintain alertness and safe practices.

Overview

As part of BJC HealthCare, Parkland Health Center offers a unique combination of world-class medicine along with the deep local roots and rich history of its three predecessors – Bonne Terre Hospital (opened in 1911), Mineral Area Regional Medical Center (1952), and Farmington Community Hospital (1969). Parkland Health Center has two locations in St. Francois County, Missouri – a full-service acute care hospital in Farmington as well as a rural emergency hospital in Bonne Terre. Parkland Health Center provides quality primary and secondary level inpatient and outpatient services to the people of St. Francois County and surrounding areas in southeastern Missouri.

In addition, Parkland’s Farmington campus offers a full continuum of inpatient and medical-surgical and intensive care, obstetrics and emergency services, along with a wide variety of outpatient services including oncology services, an infusion center, a wound care clinic, and the Huckstep Heart and Lung Center. Bonne Terre is a Rural Emergency Hospital providing emergency services and outpatient services including medical observation, lab, radiology, and sleep study.

Role Purpose

The registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) works within the interprofessional team and with the patient and family providing medical nutrition therapy (MNT); and conducts nutrition assessment, intervention, education, discharge planning, and care coordination to address prevention and treatment of one or more acute or chronic conditions or diseases. This is an entry level position. This dietitian is focused on meeting basic objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies nutrition related problems, determines nutrition diagnosis, prioritizes nutrition intervention and documents plan of care including writing diet orders and educating patient and families on nutrition plan of care.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient/client understanding of the nutrition support therapy prescription. Evaluates evidence that the nutrition intervention/plan of care is influencing a desirable change in the patient/client behavior or status.
  • Reviews best available research/evidence and information for application to practice.
  • Shares current, evidence-based knowledge, information with patients/clients, colleagues, and the public and tailors to the customers needs.
  • Identifies efficient workflow patterns to optimize time management and maximize patient/client care outcomes.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
