Qualifications

• B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.
• ASCP preferred or NCA certification.
• Participates in the training of other staff members.
• Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
• Identifies learning strengths and needs
• Utilizes learning resources.
• Participates in continuing education. Attends at least four continuing education sessions a year.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical laboratory procedures in chemistry/hematology as directed.
• Performs coagulation and urinalysis procedures per policy.
• Performs maintenance on instrumentation and documents actions.
• Performs quality control and calibration; records in LIS and charts.
• Signs out QC records and maintains logs.
• Maintains all records per regulatory requirements.
• Consults with Supervisor/Pathologist on important results.
• Reviews Critical Test results and communicates to Nursing/Physician.
• Prioritizes work to meet turnaround times; notifies if delays.
• Assists in inventory control and ensures supplies.
• Participates in other projects/duties as assigned.
• Takes initiative in resolving instrument problems.
• Uses available time to support department.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide patient care appropriate age.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Education

B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.

ASCP preferred or NCA certification.
